The Challenge

The Challenge...
No buying clothes or shoes for the year of 2012. To prove that I have more than enough clothing options already hanging (or laying) in my closets. Yes, I made closets plural, and yes, they are both at maximum capacity.

DAY ONE...HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Okay, it's here. Day one. I woke up to a plethora of emails from all the places I love to shop informing me of the huge sales they are having. Ugh. Part of me thought, "Why did I say I would do this???"

I spent my New Year's Eve very low-key this year. Since my main boo and I broke up a couple of months ago I have been living the single life, which meant spending the holidays alone. My other recently single friend and I decided to just go have dinner and see a movie. We decided on seeing Young Adult. The screenplay is by the same woman who wrote the hysterical Juno. We were pretty excited, because the previews seemed pretty funny. Wrong. Young Adult is the Yin to Juno's Yang. It was terrible. The best part of the movie was seeing the preview for Titanic in 3D. Yes, I am going to see that movie. And yes, I am going to morph into my teenager self and cry uncontrollably when Rose says, "I'll never let go!" Let's just say it's going to be awesome.

I don't really get a feeling of new beginnings with New Year's I feel like it is just another day. Technically I'm right. But for most people they feel like the slate has been washed clean, and they can reinvent themselves. It usually lasts about three weeks before they sink back into their regular routine. I usually don't have a resolution, and I don't even like to call this one. A resolution is supposed to be permanent. And there is no way in hell that I will stop shopping forever. I think I just decided that a full year would be the best way to structure this challenge to myself. Because that is exactly what this is, a challenge. I'm super competitive. And there is no person I love to compete with more than myself. The only thing I regret about picking this year to challenge myself, is that it's a leap year. Instead of 365 days of no shopping, I have to go 366....unless I make that extra day like a float day, where I could cash it in to go shopping. Hmmmm, yes, I think that will be allowed. I have ONE day, any full 24 hour period in which I am allowed to shop. This must be after February 29th, since that is how float days work and I must give advanced notice beforehand. Sometimes I think I should have become a lawyer, or a high class criminal, because I am really good at finding loop holes.

Happy Shopping, may you all receive additional percent off your next purchase!
